Help on HyperArchive Keyword Search

The hyperarchive keyword search works as follows:

  1. The input query you type into the search form is parsed into component "words" which have been separated by blanks. Thus the typed query "inspect fungus" yields the two components "inspect" and "fungus".

  2. The hyperarchive is searched for all files (not folders) whose summary lines contain each of the components, ignoring case. Each component may match a word or a portion of a word in the summary line; thus the query "inspect fungus" would match summary lines containing

Note that each summary line implicitly contains the name of the file it references, despite the fact that the file name isn't directly visible on the summary line. Thus the search may turn up a line whose relation to the search is not obvious, eg

because the file it references is named something like "fungus-inspector.hqx".

  3. The most recent 40 matching summary lines are reported back to you. If there are more than 40 matches, that fact is noted at the end of the list; presumably you should add or extend your keywords to narrow the search.

Consequences of this scheme include the facts that "fungus inspector" is equivalent to "inspector fungus" and that such components as "mac", "the", and "program" tend to be less than useless in searches.

Now, go ahead and try a search:
